“Like Water” by Daryl Joji Maeda
Like Water explores how migration and colonialism shaped martial arts legend Bruce Lee
We haven't ventured much into the world of nonfiction here at The Lakshmi and Asha Show, but we decided to shake things up after we received access to copies of "Like Water: A Cultural History of Bruce Lee" by the historian Daryl Joji Maeda. As lifelong observers of Asian American pop culture, Bruce Lee's career and legacy as an actor, producer and --- of course --- cultural icon, had always loomed large over much of the work we've consumed, so it was fascinating to get a deeper look at why Lee not only endures, but continues to fascinate and inspire fans all over the world today.
