“Lift Like A Girl” (2020)

With Lift Like A Girl director Mayye Zayed takes viewers inside the world of Egypt's teen weightlifting comm.

The DOC NYC film festival kicks off later today and one of the most anticipated offerings is the United States premiere of Lift Like A Girl, Mayye Zayed's look at the lives of a group of young female weightlifters in Egypt.

The film takes viewers inside the makeshift gym belonging to Captain Ramadan, an eccentric older man who transformed an empty lot in Alexandria into a weightlifting center for girls (and some boys) in the area.
