Long time readers of the newsletter know that we often raved about Karin Tanabe's 2020 novel A Hundred Suns, which illuminated the brutality and callousness of colonialism in a way that few historical women's fiction novels dare to do.

That is just one of the reasons we literally squealed with happiness when we got a review copy of Tanabe's latest novel A Woman of Intelligence, which was released by St. Martin's Press on July 20.
