“The Shadows of Men” by Abir Mukherjee
Abir Mukherjee's The Shadows of Men is a startling portrait of 1920s Calcutta
It's sadly still rare to see historical mysteries set in India that are written by South Asian authors, which is why in recent years we've become such fans of authors like Sujata Massey and Abir Mukherjee, who we first reviewed back in 2018 when he released his Calcutta-set mystery A Necessary Evil. Since then he's released several mysteries featuring Captain Sam Wyndham and Sergeant Surendranath Banerjee as they solve murders that are intricately interwoven with the politics of India at the time.
