Once one of the best known Black women in the United States in the late 1800s, many aspects of the legacy of Ida B. Wells have been largely forgotten or overlooked today. A leading voice for civil rights and anti lynching legislation, Wells devoted her career to uplifting the rights of Black Americans in the decades after Reconstruction was allowed to fail.
